Prototype design and delivery

Engineering is the art of making what you need out of what you've got. ...and no specialty teaches that stark fact more than active controls. You cannot buy an ANC system off-the-shelf. ...at least not a good one. If you want one, you must design it and build it.

Because of this, Sound Solutions LLC has unique experience in creating and realizing embedded systems. From handheld devices to wearables, we have delivered devices to other companies who are on the road to their own market breakthroughs. We are happy to do it.

Please note that - in the descriptions below - we endeavor to respect our client's propriety.

Do you have an idea that you would like to see on your desk, in your hand, or on your wrist? Let's discuss how your idea can be realized.

Representative projects

Rotating machinery acoustic characterization

A client required a device that could use the acoustic signature of their product to assess running condition and possibly identify existing or future failures. The interface designed was a wi-fi broadcast to a local smartphone. This same module offers Bluetooth and long-range (2 mile) communication options.

Wearable health monitor

A client sought a prototype of a wearable health monitor. This monitor had a local display but also interfaced wirelessly (wifi) to the wearer's phone.

Cell phone signal tracker

The client required a remotely deployed device that could travel on locomotives logging all available cell carrier signal strength along the route. Time, date, and location stamps were recorded, as well. The result was map sets accurate to the rail fleet route.

Oil pressure dash display recovery

A class of heavy duty consumer truck was built with non-working oil pressure dash gauges. Although the display looked real, the display was actually binary. A design effort was undertaken that restored the true measure of the oil pressure to the dash gauge without instrument cluster modification.

Directional speaker arrays

Directional speaker arrays were constructed to allow the listening of television programs by elderly residents of an assisted living facility without the levels required causing neighboring occupants to suffer.

Current projects

Diesel engine flow bench control

A client requires the microprocessor control of the precise timing of diesel injector firing for use on a flow bench. The planned system uses wifi interfacing for control of the OEM IDM from a laptop or smartphone browser.

Impulsive noise reduction headphones and earbuds

The client requires the reduction of impulsive noise using both headphones and earbuds. The adaptive control of the process is challenging due to the transient nature of the disturbance as well as person-to-person variances of transfer paths.

Backup camera delay

Backup cameras that are actuated by shifting in reverse are annoying in that maneuvering often required the driver to go in and out of reverse. This device keeps the camera working for one minute after the reverse signal is lost - thus eliminating the constant on/off.
