Passive control systems

While active control systems can provide extreme performance, passive control systems can provide extreme value. Robustness, durability, and low cost are inherent characteristics of passive designs.

But, that's not to say that passive systems cannot also provide excellent performance. Sound Solutions tuned barriers are an example of a passive solution that is custom designed to combat the specific noise components of an unwanted disturbance. Reactive barriers are another example of how we can help you.

Let us discuss these options with you.

Representative projects

Locomotive cab quieting

While active noise quieting can provide surgical noise reduction in locomotive cabs, often a more robust, durable, and cost effective solution is desired. SS can design a tuned barrier for your locomotive cab whose absorption characteristics precisely match the unwanted noise spectrum. Use data can be taken into account to ensure that the notch settings that are most prevalent are also the most quiet.

Oil pump station quieting

An oil pumping station was drawing unwanted attention from the neighbors. The solution was a 10m tall and 300m long tuned absorbing wall that was ideally matched to eliminate the offending pump tones. Our design stopped the complaints from the local landowners and improved their quality of life.

Office quieting

Office and restaurants often have absolutely atrocious acoustic properties. The solution does not have to be ugly and it does not have to be expensive. SS can analyze your workspace and design an attractive and effective solution.
